Level A Suit Testing
- Pressure Testing (ASTM F1052): Involves inflating the suit to a specific pressure (e.g., 3-5 inches water gauge) and measuring pressure drop over time to detect leaks, with a maximum 20% pressure drop allowed.
- Visual Inspection: Conducted before each use to check for pinholes, damaged seams, torn fabric, and faulty closures.
- When to Test:
-
- Initial Receipt: Upon receiving new suits.
- After Each Use: Before the suit is cleaned and returned to service.
- Annually: A yearly check for stored suits.
-
- Exhaust Valve Inspection: Ensuring valves are functional and clear of obstructions.
Level A suits are designed to protect against vapors, gases, and liquids, requiring total encapsulation and specialized testing to guarantee safety.
